Kids on the Run

The statistics are grim. The childhood obesity rates are staggering. Phy Ed programs are being cut, recess time is insufficient, and our children's favorite pasttimes no longer involve movement. How do we get our kids to be physically active for the recommended 60 minutes a day? How can we get them excited about living a lifestyle of fitness?
Kids on the Run will provide you and your school age children the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of fitness and running together. It's a great option for kids who are not in organized sports to stay active. We will be doing cardio intervals that will include games and running on a safe path. We will also provide fun education and incentives to keep your kids motivated.
This class will be geared to children ages 5 to 12, and other family members are not required but welcome to participate. Younger children are welcome at their parents' discretion.
To register: No sessions are scheduled at this time. Please check back in the spring.
If you would like to be on a mailing list for future KOTR programs or would like to be considered for our paid or volunteer coaching positions, please contact Steph VanHeel, instructorsteph@gmail.com.

I live in Ham Lake with my husband Bobby and three boys; Connor (10), Drew (8) and Jacob (5). I also have three step-children that spend many weekends with us; Lexie (12), Jayce (10), and Shelby (8). We are a very busy and active blended family. I love being outside. Some of the things I enjoy; gardening, spending time on the lake, playing beach volleyball, and taking lots of pictures of our kids. I began running after I had my last son and was looking for a new way to lose the baby weight. I have always had a passion for fitness, but running has become more than a passion and more than just a way to burn calories, it has become “addicting”. I love to run and I love to run races. After my love for my family and fitness I also have a heart for moms and women’s health issues. I have a Bachelors in Communications and am currently in school working on my RN degree and working on my Group Fitness Certification at the same time. My goal is to continue my education so that I might better care for and teach others about the joys of living a healthy life. Taking care of ourselves is a priority in better being able to care for our families.
I am grateful for the opportunity to work with this program. As I seek to motivate and inspire others, I am in turn also motivated and inspired myself. Moms on the Run provides a place to make new friends and find the encouragement and support to achieve your fitness goals. It will also give you the motivation to be the best ‘Mom on the Run’ you can be!
